As one of the founders and President of Compass Engineering Group, Mike is responsible for assuring that project deadlines, goals, and objectives are met. He has extensive project coordination, engineering and commissioning experience relative to implementing automated material handling systems of all sizes and designs. Project experience ranges from major expansions to new large scale systems for various package handling providers.
Mike actively manages both the technical and administrative activities of the company. His career spans more than 25 years in the management, and engineering areas, from the early years as a field technician to the present as President. With his guidance and the recruitment of highly experienced engineers from the material handling field, the company has grown an average of 20 percent each of the past four years.
Prior to Compass Engineering Group, Mike was a Senior Project Engineer for a number of projects and R&D efforts at Litton Unit Handling Systems, Western Atlas, and HK Systems. During this period his efforts resulted in many standards, new products including a patent for a positioning control design.
Mike attended the University of Cincinnati where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Through 23 years of experience, Mike has demonstrated his extraordinary technical leadership by delivering successful system implementations and ensuring that systems run smoothly at peak capacity. He has been responsible for the system design, development, and resiliency of complex control implementations for FedEx Ground facilities including Denver, CO Hub; Nashville, TN Hub; Champaign, IL Hub; Sacramento, CA Hub; Anaheim, CA Automated Satellite; and Carol Stream, IL Automated Satellite.
Under Mike’s supervision, Compass Engineering Group solutions are validated to successfully perform under the most extreme conditions. Mike’s expertise lies in robust system design and architecture. Additionally, he has a deep understanding for the client’s need for efficiency.
Guided by his extensive system design experience, Mike ensures that all of our engineers adhere to Compass Engineering Group's established design templates and proven engineering standards.

During his tenure at these companies, Mike built a solid reputation for deploying successful system implementations as team leader.
Mike attended Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati where he majored in Electrical Engineering. He is a founding member and officer of Compass Engineering Group, Inc.
Director, Controls & Software Engineering

Jim Lesser has 23 years of electrical engineering project experience. He has been responsible for the design and implementation of control systems for many types of automated material handling systems, including high-speed package sortation systems, pallet systems, and automated storage/retrieval systems. Jim also leads the PLC development team for Compass Engineering Group in creating standard software modules that are flexible but extremeley solid.
In addition to project engineering for large control systems, Jim specializes in servo-controlled induction systems and has provided interleaving package merges and inline gap regulation systems for many freight handling and distribution facilities. Although the systems he has provided are often challenging and complex, he has a widespread reputation for delivering reliable and maintenance-friendly control systems.
Jim graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1983 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree and is a licensed professional engineer. He is a founding member and officer of Compass Engineering Group, Inc. Jim is reponsible for technical direction here at Compass Engineering Group, including standard PLC program development and research and development.
Software Department Manager

Steve Burbrink has 22 years of software engineering experience. He has been responsible for the design and implementation of systems for many types of software based projects, which include case and pallet systems, automated storage/retrieval systems, graphical monitoring systems as well as managing the support infrastructure within the Compass Engineering Group facility. Steve is also involved with the business development of Compass Engineering Group and provides the knowledge and skills to integrate new or existing Warehouse Management Systems with material handling control systems.
Steve graduated from the University of Cincinnati, College of Applied Science in 1985 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Technology degree and joined Compass Engineering Group in January, 2000.
